about
Inspired by Nandi Chinna's exploration of 'homesickness induced by radical change in a home place' and her love for the wetlands of Perth. www.fremantlepress.com.au/books/1397
Handpan sampled from Sam Maher - traveller busker extraordinaire.
lyrics
Swamp Gospel:
We wander through the fog,
through the 'spirits of the night',
rises like 'incense of the earth'
while we try to make sense of this life.
See that tennis court, those manicured lawns?
That used to be a food bowl,
but now it's gone.
And I'm homesick,
calling out like this
for something that I never knew but know I miss.
Secret, sacred places
We've covered up
Wetland traces
sing that swamp gospel loud.
Intricate biophonies
spill onto the street
underneath the road rivers,
living waters seep.
See that tennis court, those manicured lawns?
That used to be a food bowl,
but now it's gone.
And I'm homesick,
calling out like this
for something that I never knew but know I miss.
Secret, sacred places
We've covered up
Wetland traces
sing that swamp gospel loud.

Discovered while on Bandcamp safari. Agreeable shades of krautrock and 90s IDM and beautifully measured. This is the kind of release that encourages me to spend way too much time going down the Bandcamp rabbit hole. AJ.
Such an interesting combination of sounds--a little R&B, hints of gamelan music, experimental electronica flourishes, and layered vocals. Somehow, it all works together nicely. Philip Graham
